Algebra 2 is a junior level course for most students. It contains harder and more advanced concepts than were covered in Algebra I. Algebra 2 is a challenging course that requires practice, participation, and patience. If you are willing to do the work, you will be successful.
Some students find that Algebra 2 is the most challenging math course they have ever taken in high school because you are extending your learning on topics you have covered in earlier math courses, and you are expected to be able to use those skills in order to do a higher level of math. The topics and skills used in Algebra 2 will also prepare students for any senior level math class they may take as well.
Come to class every day with a writing utensil, paper, a good attitude, and willing to work and you will be successful. Those are my expectations. Homework will be assigned, but sometimes you will have a chance to finish your assignments in class.
Expect 2 quizzes per unit before we take a test. If you do better on the test for a unit than you do for a quiz in that same unit, I will replace the quiz grade with the higher test grade. Keep learning. Keep trying.
This class does have a comprehensive SLO exam at the end of the second semester which will count for 20% of your entire grade. It is important that you keep up with your assignments, come to class ready to learn, and do your best every day so that you will have the results you desire on the SLO.
Please see the syllabus and the student handbook for all other class expectations. Email me at any time with your questions or concerns.
